What’s new
Tempo now offers a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so you can connect Claude to your Tempo account and ask questions in natural language using your actual Tempo data. You can use it to review completed workouts and workout details, look ahead at planned training, inspect events and event details, analyze fitness and wellness metrics, check athlete profile information, and explore nutrition data including daily intake plus workout and event fuel plans. Connection uses Tempo’s remote MCP URL and the same guided steps we show in the Web app, including screenshots for adding Tempo as a custom connector in Claude.
Why it helps
You get a quick path from “what was my load last month?” to answers grounded in your Tempo data, useful for planning, recap, and comparing periods—without copy-pasting exports or maintaining a local MCP server.
How to try it
In Tempo on the web, go to Settings and open the AI Assistants tab .
Follow Set up in Claude: in Claude, open Customize → Connectors, add a custom connector named Tempo with remote URL https://mcp.jointempo.ai/mcp, then complete the authentication step with your Tempo credentials when prompted so Claude can access your account.
Note: This integration requires a Premium subscription, as shown on the AI Assistants card.
Here’s another great example on how to use Claude with Tempo data.
Prompt
I’d like you to analyze my workout load from last two weeks (including load from all types of workouts) and tell me if it’s advisable to do the workout I have planned for today based on how my fitness and wellness metrics have been evolving until today. If you conclude I should go ahead and do it, tell me how to prepare for it in terms of hydration and fueling and the timing of it.
Hey Marc, I am trying to use the Tempo MCP to pull the estimated FTP, but claude suggested that FTP estimate is not exposed. Do you plan to expose that in the future? Thanks!
Hey Henry, yeah I’m planning to add a new tool to the MCP to return profile information and it will include the estimated FTP value this week. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.
I’ve added a new tool called get_athlete_information that returns body & metabolism,
performance, cardiovascular and fueling & hydration data — the same data displayed on the Tempo web app’s Profile page.
You can go to Claude → Connectors → Tempo and refresh the tools list.
BTW, any plans or ETA to get a workout builder tool for the MCP? For now I do it manually or Claude adds this to my calendar.
Also the workout builder does not provide a range or zone which is bit tricky for my wahoo to show. It literally adds the exact IF/FTP value (watts) as the target.
Yes, MCP write tools including the ability to build and schedule workouts is in the roadmap, but I can’t give you an estimate on when it will be available. I’m hoping in the next month or so in beta, then to all users once things are working well.
Thanks for the feedback. I was planning to take another pass at the builder and add support for HR-based targets as well and I can add support for power ranges. I also need to polish the library that builds automatically as you save interval-based workouts.
For those tracking calories, macros, and energy levels in Tempo — there’s a new MCP tool: get_energy_availability. Reconnect the Claude connector and it’ll show up in the tool list.
